The Môrelig farm (the name means "morning light") has long grown and supplied grapes for some of the Swartland's most celebrated winemakers but encouraged by these neighbours, Andrew Wightman and more recently joined by his son Brandon began making wine of their own as members of the Swartland Independent Producers.
Andrew’s wines have always been made intuitively and naturally, respecting the unique gifts bestowed by some of the most sought-after fruit in the Swartland.
The Gentleman & His Small Brother is named after two differently behaving barrels of Cinsaut: one that behaved like a gentleman throughout and another that, well, didn't! (It mischievously splurged all over Andrew at one point in the fermentation.)
The Cinsaut comes from bushvines grown in clay & schist soils on the banks of the Berg River. Semi-carbonic maceration on skins for 5 days, pressed, naturally fermented and matured in those old oak barrels for 7 months. It's a delightful, lighter red wine with an enticingly vibrant red hue, juicy red berries jumping at you from all angles. As thirst-quenching as it gets for a red wine. Bung it in the fridge for a bit if you fancy too.
