The Môrelig farm (the name means "morning light") has long grown and supplied grapes for some of the Swartland's most celebrated winemakers but encouraged by these neighbours, Andrew Wightman and more recently joined by his son Brandon began making wine of their own as members of the Swartland Independent Producers.

These wines have always been made intuitively and naturally, respecting the unique gifts bestowed by some of the most sought-after old vines in the Swartland.

This is their zenith. A white wine of great presence, magnificently crafted by nature and winemaker. The unirrigated vineyard was planted in 1965 - the oldest plot on the farm - on classic Paardeberg decomposed granite. Ostensibly a block of Chenin Blanc, it is interplanted with scatterings of Cape Riesling (aka Crouchen). The yield is just 0.6 t/ha (this is miniscule).

Harvested by hand, whole-bunch basket pressed, naturally fermented in old French oak barrels and matured for 9 months. Racked twice - after malolactic fermentation and just before bottling.

After missing the 2018 vintage (just 40 litres were produced due to the drought), this wine has returned in 2019 but still just 220 bottles were made. The wine is dry, mineral, intensely aromatic and redolent of any great Swartland Chenin Blanc.
