Sobrero Barolo Ciabot Tanasio 2015
Established in the 1940s by Francesco Sobrero, this family-run winery has been carefully managed by third generation Flavio Sobrero since 2000. The family manages 16 hectares, three quarters of which are located in the heart of Langhe’s Castiglione Falletto region. Producing some of the region’s top-tier Langhe Nebbiolo, Sobrero is also lucky enough to own vines within six magnificent Crus: Villero, Pernanno, Ornato, Piantà, Valentino and Parussi. The conversion to organic viticulture in 2020 marks a new chapter in their family history.
Their Barolo Ciabot Tanasio is picked from plots with an elevation of 350 metres and vines up to 50-years-old. Naturally fermented with the skins for just over a month in stainless steel tank, resulting in a fresher, yet still structured syle of Barolo. Then the wine is transferred to very large oak barrels for 30 months of ageing before being bottled without filtration.
This is a modern, slightly lighter style of Barolo. Fleshy cherry and plum fruit with intense floral notes. The tannins are refreshingly broad and open, so while it is an intense flavour the texture is far more approachable in youth than traditional Barolo of yesteryear. Autumnal flavours, with liquorice, plums, tanned leather and cocoa powder. A lovely, very classy drink.
