Rasa Dry Red 2017

Rasa Wines

Barossa Valley, South Australia

Mourvèdre 50%, Grenache 25%, Cinsault 25%

"Our wines don't fit inside a conventional framework, they don't fit beside all the others in a massed regional comparison," says young winemaker Andy Cummins of his Rasa Wines. He makes fewer than 2,000 bottles a year as a bit of a moonlighting project alongside the day job as a winemaker for Henschke.

He and Emma Welling have only made a few vintages of Rasa but already the wines are turning heads and they sell out quickly.

Think of the red wines of the Barossa Valley, really think of everything you know about the region, then throw all those thoughts out the window. These are fresh, sappy, juicy, avant-garde natural wines with character, class and exceptional poise.

Their Dry Red blend is precisely that, a dry, red blend! You've got a Southern Rhône-esque medley of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault that comes across darker and more savoury than their Bright Red and that'll be thanks to the Mourvèdre. Those bright red fruits from the Grenache and Cinsault are underpinned by darker fruit flavours like black cherry and some liquorice. Gorgeous, brooding stuff.
