Paşaeli 6N Karasakiz 2018
Kaz Daglari, Turkey
Karasakiz 90%, Merlot 10%
Seyit Karagözoglu founded Paşaeli in 2000, aiming to revive and celebrate the forgotten native grapes of Turkey. Karasakiz - curiously translating as "black chewing gum" - is native to Kaz Daglari and extends to fewer than 50 hectares. This is picked from a single vineyard at an altitude of 550 metres on the slopes of Mount Ida, close to the site of ancient Troy. Light to medium bodied, characteristically Karasakiz, with distinctive aroma of red cherry, cranberry and dried figs.
There's a sour cherry freshness and earthy spices on the long finish. Inimitably gorgeous.
