Pecorino is cheese, right? True story. Pecora means "sheep" in Italian. This is the sheep's grape, because herded sheep would munch them as they passed through vineyards. It's an ancient variety driven to the brink of extinction by the end of the 20th century and recently revived. Pecorino is naturally low-yielding, and you have to let it remain so in order to achieve the best flavours: over-crop (for instance to hit a cheap price) and you dilute the flavour. Orsogna's Pecorino is grown 500 metres high in the Maiella hills, to low yields. This means a powerfully aromatic and full-flavoured white wine, with masses of spice, super-zingy grapefruit and lemons, and strongly mineral and herbal. It's our bestselling white wine for good reason!
