Morgado do Quintão Palhete 2018
Tinta Negra Mole 50%, Crato Branco 50%
Filipe Vasconcellos wants to change the perception of Algarve wines. His wines certainly turned our heads, and we’re confident they’ll turn yours. Filipe’s mission is to rescue ancient Algarve grapes grown at the property he inherited from his mother, who resisted advice to plant better-known international varieties. Filipe has followed her lead and is planting more vines alongside those his grandparents planted more than 60 years ago, a short distance from the Atlantic. The wines are idiosyncratically authentic, championing old styles like palhete and clarete.
The traditional palhete wine is a co-fermentation of red and white grapes, here Tinta Negra Mole and Crato Branco. Salmon light colour, on the nose it is fresh with notes of fresh flowers, on the palate is crispy and textured.
