Morgado do Quintão Clarete 2018
Red | Ready, but will keep | Morgado do Quintão | 2018 | Portugal > Algarve | Tinta Negra Mole | Medium Bodied, Dry | 13% abv
Filipe Vasconcellos wants to put Algarve wines on the map. His wines certainly turned our heads, and we’re confident they’ll turn yours. Filipe’s mission is to rescue ancient Algarve grapes grown at the property he inherited from his mother, who resisted advice to plant better-known international varieties. Filipe has followed her lead and is planting more vines alongside those his grandparents planted more than 60 years ago, a short distance from the Atlantic. The wines are idiosyncratically authentic, championing old styles like palhete and clarete, and are made by Joana Maçanita.
This old-school red is relatively light for what you'd expect from Portugal, with intensely juicy fruit and crunchy texture. Amazing aroma that grabs you instantly and invites you to take another sip. Made from old Tinta Negra Mole, it's an utter delight.
