Mira do Ó Druida Encruzado Reserva 2018
Nuno Mira do Ó is the winemaker behind Druida, Vidente and V Puro, wines from the historic Dão, Bucelas and Bairrada regions of Portugal.
The Druida wines hark back to the ancient Celtic druids, wise men and philosophers who sought spiritual equilibrium between man and nature, and it's in a similar spirit that Nuno aims to make his wine. Grapes for these are grown by Nuno Matos at Quinta da Turquide in Silgueiros at an altitude of 500 metres on granite-rich soils and subject to a large temperature shifts as a result of the Serra do Caramulo from the west and Serra da Estrela from the south-east.
Druida Branco truly is one of the jewels in the Portuguese wine crown and consistently regarded by critics among the country's very best white wines. Hand-harvested Encruzado that's naturally fermented in French oak barrels (one-fifth new). Aged for ten months in barrel on the lees.
Elegant, intense and complex on the nose, it demonstrates precisely why Encruzado is being spoken of as Portugal's answer to Burgundian Chardonnay. Mineral flinty notes dominate, followed by citrus fruit, summer flowers and thyme. Awesome balance, great texture and structure.
