“McLaren Vale is our heartland”, and it’s where Bernice Ong and Julian Forwoodbought their 11 hectare vineyard atop the Onkaparinga Gorge. Between them they have thirty-five years of experience in wine & hospitality, and they have developed a knack for tracking down the very best parcels of fruit they can lay their hands on. Fruit is sourced from around the country: close to home in McLaren Vale or Clare Valley and as far afield as Tasmania. Bernice and Julian created Ministry of Clouds in 2013, and in such a short space of time their beautifully poised, elegant wines have won a legion of fans.

The base of this Riesling comes from the lean, rocky soils of two high altitude vineyards in the rugged hills of Penwortham and Sevenhill. The bunches and berries are tiny but intensely flavoured. They ripen late and provide a rapier-like acid line. To provide balance, the remaining half is sourced from a slightly more fertile north-facing site in Watervale planted in the 1960s on red loam over quartz providing more weight and flavour. This Riesling was wild fermented in stainless steel tanks. There was no malolactic fermentation to preserve purity of fruit and acid.

A delicate expression of Clare Valley Riesling, exhibiting lifted floral notes, kaffir lime, freshly squeezed lemon juice, grapefruit peel, bath salts and talc. Classic citrus notes are complimented by the mouth-watering chalky and mineral texture on the palate, finishing with a fine and taut freshness.
