Cape Town Wine Co. Sauvignon Blanc is from vineyards around Cape Town, cooled by the Cape Doctor since the 17th century.
Lowerland Die Wonderdraai, on the other hand, comes from the other end of the country - the Northern Cape and the little town of Prieska, to be exact. Lowerland is a remote, pioneering organic family farm, where the grapes are picked and driven south through the night to Stellenbosch, where the wine is made by winemaking friends. This is an exciting new white blend of Chenin Blanc & Colombard, a full-bodied hug of a wine from a remarkable place.
It's in neighbouring Voor-Paardeberg where De Kleine Wijn Koöp Klipkers Droë Wit is farmed, an exotic blend of Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Verdelho delivering a rather moreish, aromatic and silky dry white.
Cape Point Vineyards Reserve is another Sauvignon Blanc but a very different one, being blended with a bit of Semillon and aged in French oak barrels. This richer, toasty number comes from the isolated vineyards of the Cape Point peninsula and was recently named one of South Africa's top 10 Wooded Sauvignon Blancs by WineMag, as well as awarded 94 points by Tim Atkin MW.
Returning to the Swartland, Wightman & Sons A&B's Blend is a gorgeous bushvine Chenin Blanc & Clairette blend from one of the most sought-after, organically farmed vineyards in the area, Môrelig.
Finally Reverie Chenin Blanc is an electrifying, textured, unfined & unfiltered single-vineyard Chenin, a passion project by Radford Dale winemaker Jacques de Klerk, just 11% alcohol but with waves of flavour that make this seem like a much bigger wine.
