Romorantin is an ancient, almost forgotten grape of France, clinging on by its finger nails in the little Loire valley region of Cour-Cheverny. It's a tricky grape to grow, which has contributed to its decline, but passionate traditional growers like the Gendrier family, who founded Domaine des Huards in 1846, stick at it to their great credit. Michel farms organically and biodynamically, respecting the land and the grape, ferments naturally and adds minimal sulphur.
This full-on Romorantin comes into its own with bottle age. Very mineral, with striking acidity, and the hallmark hint of honey that heightens with time. Very citrus and refreshing, this would be better than even Sauvignon Blanc can be with goat's cheese.
