Dal Zotto Arneis 2017
Otto and Elena Dal Zotto emigrated from Valdobbiadene in 1967, settling down in the King Valley, a few hours' drive north of Melbourne. Here in the foothills of the relatively cool Victorian Alps, they grew tobacco before turning to vines in 1987. Beginning in the 1990s, Otto introduced the traditional grapes of his Italian homeland, which remain the cornerstones of their range today. Dal Zotto was the pioneer of Australian Prosecco too, making the sparkling wine long before Italian authorities changed the name of the grape to Glera and clamped down on foreign imitations. They won a landmark case permitting them and others to continue making 'Prosecco' in Australia, but we currently cannot import it into the EU.
Now their sons Michael and Christian are in charge of a stunning range of wines, including this gorgeous, authentic Arneis. One of the best we've ever drunk, and that includes examples from Piedmont! Pear, citrus and beeswax, then all lively and tangy to finish.
