The Corvers and Kauter families have between them five hundred years of history in the Rheingau vineyards. Now led by winemaker Dr Matthias and Brigitte Corvers, their 12 hectares of gravity-defying organic vineyards are planted around the villages of Oestrich and Winkel in the traditional manner on steep banks falling down to the Rhine river.
Their Berg Rottland Rudesheim Grosse Lage Riesling is from a magnificent single vineyard overlooking the river. If you want to see what all the fuss is about over fine German Riesling, this is not a bad place to start. In fact it's an amazing place to start!
Bone dry in style, it is so expressive of grape and site. Hand-picked and only the absolutely finest grapes go into this wine. Basket pressed and naturally settled with lees contact to bring texture. It's the epitome of top Riesling, with fresh peach, rose hips and minerally notes with so much mid-palate weight that follows refreshingly to a very long, direct, clean finish.
