Red | Ready, but will keep | Colline de l'Hirondelle | 2016 | France > Languedoc-Roussillon > Corbières | Carignan 55%, Grenache 35%, Syrah 10% | Full Bodied, Dry | 15% abv

American girl Jennifer took a trip to France fifteen years ago, met a boy, and very much stayed. That boy's family tended vines, and after a bit of viticultural globetrotting, Jennifer and Didier settled down in the boy's home town of Douzens, surrounded by the Corbières hills. Their nine small plots of organic vines include the oldest vineyard in the village, ungrafted and planted in the latter years of the 19th century.

L'Oiseau is a traditional Corbières red (though all their wines are bottled as Vin de France): a blend of Grenache, Syrah and predominantly some very special 90-year-old Carignan. The spiciest of their reds, both powerful and sleek with fragrance of dark rich fruit, violets and toasty, warming cinnamon. No oak, just steel vats, ageing in those for 16 months before 36 months in bottle. Jennifer & Didier won't release their wines before they believe they're ready, so all the beneficial ageing has been done for you and it is very much good to go.
