Don't know about you, but it's utterly freezing out there for us, and snowing. This calls for a dive into emergency stocks of some of our favourite southern French reds. Each is very different, but there's a common theme (apart from being French): they're relying on excellent quality fruit and skilled winemaking rather than oak. Only the Cahors Malbec sees some wood, but in minimal amounts.
They're all perfect for drinking, and we can't emphasise that word drinking enough: they're not massive reds that need half a cow to digest them. These are intensely flavoured, warming reds that you can sip in front of the fire.
