Albino Rocca Langhe Chardonnay 2018
Wine has been made here by four generations of the Rocca family; following the tragic passing of their father Angelo Rocca in 2012, today’s custodians are his three daughters - Paola, Monica and Daniela. It was Albino Rocca’s father Giacomo who started winemaking in the 1940s, selling wine out of demijohns, before establishing the winery in 1960. Angelo set in place the philosophy of the estate’s wines, when in 2004 he began increasing the use of large 20-hectolitre oak barrels for his Barberesco. This was not out of nostalgia but to achieve, in his view, the best expression of Nebbiolo.
The family’s vineyards are all within the boundaries of the Barbaresco region, and they hold sustainability certification for their efforts in safeguarding the remarkable natural environment of Piedmont.
This gorgeous Chardonnay comes from sites in Nieve, Alba and Barbaresco at altitudes of 200 to 240 metres and mature vines planted on clay and limestone, between ten and twenty years old. Aged in stainless steel, it is a pure, delicious expression of cool-climate Chardonnay.
