Albert drives up to 40,000km every year between a plethora of vineyards in the Cape, sourcing only the very best grapes for his growing range of tiny-batch wines. One of the early voices of the Swartland revolution while winemaker at Lammershoek, Albert has remained quietly and confidently under the radar building his own projects, while also gaining experience abroad in Priorat, the Rhône valley and Champagne.
This is Pinot Noir from one of South Africa's coolest regions, Elgin, and a pretty special vineyard close to the sea. Grapes are hand-picked, painstakingly selected, naturally fermented and matured in old 500-litre tight-grain French oak barrels. It's a winsome, shimmering cherry colour, with an inviting spicy aroma of strawberries and cherries, lively and superbly balanced with plump fruit, acidity and darker spice. Utterly, utterly delicious. Just 1,500 bottles made.
