A. Levasseur Rue du Sorbier Brut Nature NV
Champagne Albert Levasseur is a very small grower house set up by David's grandparents in 1944, the diminutive 4.2 hectares of vines farmed by David since 2003. The Rue du Sorbier Brut is named after 6, rue du Sorbier, the winery's home since the 1940s (David lives at number 4). Made from organic grapes, majoring in Pinot Meunier (a Marne valley speciality) with some Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, from their oldest plot, Les Gautelleries, planted in 1973.
A Brut Nature Champagne means there's been no added dosage, so it's the driest style. This has also been aged four years on the lees, giving a heap of richness to the naturally bracing, refreshing taste. Think gingerbread, wet wool aroma, and a fascinatingly Grüner Veltliner-esque white pepper finish.
