Veneto
These days the north-eastern Italian region of Veneto is synonymous with sparkling Prosecco production, but there is more to it than that! A bit like neighbouring Friuli Venezia-Giulia, the climate of the Veneto is decidedly cooler and to some extents more maritime influenced than southerly regions, hence the predominance of sparkling wine.
Aside from Prosecco - the true name of the grape rather than just the wine of course - there are great reds being made from unique local varieties such as Amarone della Valpolicella, or whites such as Soave from the Garganega grape.
