Seyit Karagözoglu founded Paşaeli in 2000, aiming to revive and celebrate the forgotten native grapes of Turkey, like this Sultaniye, a grape that's also known as 'Sultana' and is grown all over the region for eating and making raisins as well as, occasionally, wine. It's only Seyit's second vintage of Sultaniye, from a single vineyard in Buldan at 400 metres above sea level. Made in stainless steel tanks and aged for three months on its lees, which comes out in the flavour, almost giving a sensation of oak (though there is none), the texture being creamy too, with juxtaposed crisp flavours and broad mouthfeel.
