There aren't many rarer grapes in France than Terret. Like Pinot Noir, this one grape has distinct colour mutations: Terret Noir, Terret Blanc and Terret Gris. It's thought to be one of the oldest grapes in the Languedoc, first mentioned at the beginning of the 17th century. It is susceptible to several vine diseases so considered tricky to grow and while Terret Gris used to be extensively planted the grape has been in general decline for many years.
