Sercial
Sercial is best known for the drier fortified wines of Madeira, but probably originates from northern Portugal, where it's called Esgana Cão, or 'dog strangler' as a result of its naturally high acidity! It has found its way to another set of Portuguese islands in the Atlantic, the Açores, where it is known as Arinto dos Açores but has no relation to the Arinto from mainland Portugal.
