Scheurebe is an undervalued German cross between Riesling and a mystery grape. Yes, a genuine mystery, no one knows! Vineyards are dwindling, which is a shame because it can make some brilliant, terroir-focused wines. Mostly planted in Rheinhessen, with some in the Pfalz and bits and pieces elsewhere, but little more than 1,600 hectares in Germany, and minor plantings in Austria, Switzerland, Canada and New Zealand.
