Passerina is an ancient white grape thought to originate from Italy's Adriatic coast. It has numerous synonyms, demonstrating its age, and which often refer to its ability to produce healthy yields and pay the farmers debts, e.g. Cacciadebiti, Pagadebito and Uva d'Oro.
It is indeed a high cropping variety, however when grown on the correct site and with good yield management Passerina can be an aromatic and expressive variety with characteristics similar to Gewürtztraminer and Torrontés yet more acidity and feeling much lighter and fresher.
