Maison Ventenac Trêve Estivale Rosé 2019
Stephanie & Olivier Ramé, wife and husband, are the third generation of their family at Maison Ventenac. Their vineyards are in Cabardès, the only Languedoc appellation that allows Atlantic and Mediterranean grape varieties, offering a unique exploration of flavours. Their location around Ventenac-Cabardès is famed for limestone, chalky soils, which gives their wines saline & fresh characters. Olivier's philosophy is to allow their unique terroir to shine through in the wines, presenting them as naturally as possible and raising in terra cotta urns and concrete vats to enhance their purity..
Now we know Provençal rosé is a 'big thing' these days, and quite rightly so: who doesn't love that pale ballet-pump pink colour, pure fruit but bone-dry finish, and association with quite possibly the loveliest climate on the planet?
Alas, a lot of Provençal rosé is now becoming quite dear unless a big-production brand or not very good, in our honest opinion. So we suggest considering wines like this instead, which is from just 'down the road' in the Languedoc-Roussillon but a similar seaside climate.
Stephanie & Olivier's Trêve Estivale (which means "summer truce") is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Syrah and it ticks all those Provençal boxes: pale, dry, fruit-forward and delicious.
