Nebbiolo
Nebbiolo is a notoriously difficult yet highly rewarding grape. Native to Piedmont, it produces some of the finest red wines in the world, in the form of Barolo and Barberesco, with aromas of red fruits and roses, and an earthy, leathery complexity. The grape is a superb exponent of terroir in these Langhe hills. This has however proven very tricky to reproduce in other areas of the world. The vines need a long growing season, especially a long, dry autumn without it being too hot.
