Kewin Descombes Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2016
Red | For laying down | Kewin Descombes | 2016 | France > Beaujolais | Gamay | Medium Bodied, Dry | 13.5% abv
Kewin Descombes is one of the most precocious talents in Beaujolais. Son of the great Georges Descombes, he has Gamay running through his veins.
The Gamay for this top cuvée is from the oldest and steepest granite-soil vineyards that Kewin works with in Morgon. Farmed organically and harvested by hand, fermented naturally and bottled with no added sulphites. The wine is then aged for six months in old French oak barrels.
This is just a baby, and we recommend drinking the stellar 2015 vintage ahead of this. Both vintages will cellar well for many years, but the warm 2015 is already showing its true colours and this 2016 needs a bit more time to unfurl its dark, brooding majestic qualities.
