Haywire Waters & Banks Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Virgin soils, a frontier wine region, and a stellar team. Okanagan Crush Pad was founded in the eponymous Canadian valley in 2011 by Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie, a shared facility for small farmers and winemakers, as well as home to their own growing range of organic & biodynamic wines.
Waters & Banks is a steep 3.5-hectare vineyard on limestone and granite soils, lapped by the breeze off the lake. This Sauvignon Blanc was wild fermented and aged solely in concrete, with no oak involved. It's a beautifully balanced example of Sauvignon Blanc, with inimitable herbal aromatics combined with just enough fruit and just enough lively acidity. It's an utter joy to drink, redolent more of the finer Sauvignon Blancs of the Loire Valley in France than most New World examples.
