A rare but highly regarded grape native to Dão in central Portugal. Encruzado's greatest asset is retaining fresh acidity even in hot conditions. The lightest wines can be fairly simple with flavours of lemon and melon, however the best can be incredibly complex with floral aromas of roses and violets (more commonly associated with red wines) and a stoney, steely minerality. They can also aged for an extremely long time. Expect to see a lot more Encruzado in the future.
