Haywire Free Form Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Virgin soils, a frontier wine region, and a stellar team. Okanagan Crush Pad was founded in the eponymous Canadian valley in 2011 by Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie, a shared facility for small farmers and winemakers, as well as home to their own growing range of organic & biodynamic wines.
Waters & Banks is a steep 3.5-hectare vineyard on limestone and granite soils, lapped by the breeze off the lake. Free Form is precisely that: a very natural, freely formed wine. Sauvignon Blanc fermented naturally in stainless steel, full malolactic then 5 months of skin contact. Pressed & bottled with no filtration or additives, including zero added sulphur. The skin contact gives it an intriguing faint orange hue, the aroma of straw, flint and bruised apple opens up to tropical fruits with a bit of tannin from those skins. Bonkers, brilliant and unmissable.
