Haywire White Label Pinot Noir 2016
Virgin soils, a frontier wine region, and a stellar team. Okanagan Crush Pad was founded in the eponymous Canadian valley in 2011 by Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie, a shared facility for small farmers and winemakers, as well as home to their own growing range of organic & biodynamic wines.
Secrest Mountain Vineyard is as its name suggests up a mountain, in fact 487 metres above sea level. Farmed organically by the Wise brothers, Dave & Brad, vines are planted on alluvial, gravel, loam and limestone soils. This Pinot Noir was naturally fermented, then hung out for 11 months in big concrete eggs. No racking or filtering, bottled in its purest state. Colour screams Burgundy, with a brick rim, then you've got explosions of cherry, red berries and spice. Bravo!
