Barbera
The third most planted grape in Italy behind Sangiovese and Montepulciano. Barbera is a native to Piedmont and makes some great value wines, such as Barbera d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti. It also travels better than its more celebrated Piemontese stablemate Nebbiolo and has been planted as far afield as California and Australia, although the majority of plantings remain in Italy. Wines have distinctive cherry aroma & flavour and naturally high acidity.
