Paşaeli Sidalan 2017
Seyit Karagözoglu founded Paşaeli in 2000, aiming to revive and celebrate the forgotten native grapes of Turkey, like this Sidalan, a grape native to northern Kaz Daglari.
This is from a single vineyard at an altitude of 300 metres. Grapes pressed as whole clusters, made entirely in stainless steel tanks including ageing on the lees for three months. It's a fascinating white wine, all floral and citrus, and at the core very mineral and refreshing.
"For a wine with such moderate alcohol, there is unexpected intensity here and more evident ripe fruit, with a juicy richness in the mouth. Persistent too." - 16.5 points - Julia Harding MW for jancisrobinson.com
