Albariño
Albariño literally means 'white grape from the Rhine' and it was once thought the grape originated in Germany before being brought to northern Spain in the medieval period. This romantic tale is just a tale, as the most likely origin for the grape is where it now lives, straddling northern Portugal and Galicia, as Alvarinho in the former and Albariño in the latter.
